Washing maching is running through the wash cycles as normal but will not spin on final spin cycle. The drum can be rotated in one direction only but the motor that drives the belt spins in the direction that the drum will NOT spin. The lid latch/lock engages for the spin cycle. Is it possible that there is a problem with the latch assembly and if so, is there a way I can check it with a volt/ohm meter to eliminate or confirm this as a problem?

Are you saying that the washer will spin after the wash cycle but not spin after the rinse cycle? If that is the case the likely problem is with the timer.
If it will not spin after the wash cycle and after the rinse cycle, raise the top, set the washer on the spin cycle and measure the voltage to the lid lock. If you get 120 v, the lid lock will probably need to be replaced, otherwise it is the timer (or possibly the wiring, check for a break or short)
Good luck, let us know what you find out.

My old volt meter was bad but after getting a new one I found that the voltage at the lid lock with the lid open is indeed 120V. I will order a new one sometime next week.
Thank you for your help. It is very much appreciated.

Thanks for the update, hope the new lid lock mechanism solves the problem. Let us know what happens.

I received the lid latch today, installed it, and the drum still would not spin during the spin cycle and figured I would take a wrench and try to force the drum to turn. Well, it broke free and would spin after that but each time I run the washing machine it locks in the one direction and I have to break it free again. I don't see anything that would make it lock up like that; any thoughts on this???

Hi Truett
Sorry you are still having problems. This is difficult to diagnose, but based on your description I would think a likely source of your difficulty is the tub bearing.
That is a good place to start, because if that is not it then transmission or motor problems are the next place to go, and you really do not want to go there if you can help it.
Good luck, let us know what you find out.
