Door won't lock, just clicking noise. The door latch was replaced, and worked for a while. I've tried unplugging it, and this only helped for a while. What other part could I need to replace?

Hi Jewel
I assume you mean your error code is FdL.
The clicking you hear is the current coming on and off trying to lock the door. If you have replaced the door lock assembly I am afraid your problem is likely in the Central Control Unit, which causes electricity to be sent to the door lock to lock it.
Unfortunately this is an expensive part, but it appears to be one of the weak spots on this machine.
Good luck, let us know what you do and how it turns out.

Now the machine seems to be working okay. I am reluctant to put any more $ into this machine or buy another Whirlpool washer in the future, as we've had to (repeatedly) sink a lot of money into parts for this machine which we bought new. Whirlpool has offered no explanation, other than apologies. As well, would you happen to know the monthly maintenance directions for this machine? Thanks again!

Hi Jewel
Those are great machines, except they have a weakspot in the door lock assembly and CCU, which you already know. At least you got apologies, which is more than you get from some manufacturers.
When asked for a recommendation I still recommend Whirlpool, but nothing with a computer control. The basic Roper (Whirlpool made and Whirlpool parts) top loader, no frills will do a fine job, at little cost and last for a long time.
There is no basic maintenance for your machine. Just keep the drain system clear by cleaning out the pump ever so often and don't overload it and hope for the best on the electronics.
Thanks for updating us, good luck with your machine.

Thanks for updating us, good luck with your machine. Thanks for the response! I thought I read abour about running a cup full of bleach in an empty cycle. I don't remember which cycle was recommended? I need to stick with a front load washer, so when I replace it in the future do you have any recommendations?

You want one that does not have computer controls, or digital display for reasons you are already familiar with.
I think Frigidaire may still make one, so I would check that out first.
If you want to run a cup of bleach I think you can do it in any cycle.
Good luck
