Our Kenmore dryer has stopped running and makes an abnormal loud noise when the on/off switch is turned on. Can't really complain in light of the age and years of use we have gotten from the dryer.

A Sears technician was called and when he turned on the switch and heard the noise, he said "motor is gone out." He did not do any other checks or inspection of the dryer. Just wrote out the bill for $65. The technician probably has years (not sure) of experience and has seen a lot of Kenmore dryers and knows the sound when the motor goes out.

However, I'm not completely satisfied with his quick answer. He wrote up a cost to repair of $370. I have found a rebuilt Kenmore dryer for $165 with a 90 warranty. I have talked to Sears and they are willing to send another technician to take another look at the dryer.

Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks
Phil

Although the dryer will probably outlast your car, with the right replacement parts, you may be just as well off to buy a used machine for the smaller investment.
