Hello, The freezer section has frost on the back plate, but isn't really frozen, and the refer side is cool, but not cold.
The fan inside the freezer is blowing, as is the fan that blows over the coils.
Any suggestions?

Also, the compressor seems to be working, or at least running.

Remove the back panel in the freezer and describe the frost pattern.

If the coils under the bottom are dirty the compressor will run but not long enough the cool. If this is the case clean the coils and the problem should be fixed. If the coils are not dirty or cleaning them doesn’t seem to help take the evaporator cover off (the cover in the back of the freezer). On the coils there should be a thin layer of frost along the entire coils. If not you may have a refrigeration problem. If there is thick ice (enough to block airflow) you may have a defrost problem. Post back and describe what you see on the coils. Refrigerator repair guide

I started with cleaning the coils, which weren't very dirty anyway.
Not sure if it's relevant, but a few weeks we had a small problem with things in the vegetable bins freezing.
I'll take the back panel off tomorrow and post an update.
Thanks for your suggestions!

I'm going to open the panel in the freezer up when I get home, in a couple of hours. I'll post what I find.

Gentlemen, thanks for the suggestion. I took off that panel in the freezer side, and it was frozen solid. It took me 45 miinutes to defrost with a heat gun, I didn't want to rush it.
It's been running for about an hour now, and it seems like it's going to be OK.
Do you think I have a defrost problem? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You were correct, it was frozen solid. I defrosted it with a hot air gun, and it seems to be working.
I assume there is some mechanism or controller board that I need to replace?
Thanks.

More than likely the defrost heater is bad. But it can also be the defrost timer or the defrost thermostat. For your model the thermostat and the heater come together and are the two most likely parts but if you have a meter and would like to check it I will tell you how. Post back if you want instructions on how to check the heater. Also if you don’t fix the problem it will do the same thing in a few weeks.
