I have a maytag oven 11 years old that is a convection type. My wife turned the oven on last night and noticed sparks coming from the entry point where the element (lower) enters the oven. She turned the oven off and the sparks continued around the entire element leaving burn spots in it. I tried pulling the element out this morning and I had some sparks as I pulled the element out with the wires attached. Was the element the problem and should there be voltage when the oven is off? ( it was still plugged in). Thanks

This is the first safety rule: remove the power from an electrical unit before you start to work on it. Pull the range out of the wall, remove the rear panel and all wires and connections for a damages. Remove the wires from the Bake (bottom) heating element and check the heating element for continuity between the terminals and each terminal to ground. Post the results. Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for MAYTAG CRE9530BCE | AppliancePartsPros.comGene.
