This is a complete dis-assembly job, that requites either renting or purchasing a special tool for removal/replacement of the seal. The good news is that other than the special tool, it doesn't require learning any new skills to do the job; just follow the proper sequence of dis-assembly/reassembly steps. The bad news is, since the outer tub is plastic, even the slightest warping of the material will cause an irreparable leak--even with the new seals. The "Searcey" unit (named for where it was manufactured) has been the Maytag Mens bane since it was on the market. My recommendation: If you just want the experience, take it to your garage and take your time exploring and experimenting. But by all means, replace it with a working machine.

Thanks magician. Not exactly what I wanted to here but appreciate the info. I will park it in the garage and mess with it just to get some experience and start to look for a new one tomorrow.
