do I replace the control board,have ohmed out heating element,ok.how do i check the thermostat control?

Try to force a defrost, see the tech sheet.
If the heater heats up then the adaptive defrost board is probably shot.
If it does not heat up it still could be any one of the 3 defrost components.

To check the defost thermostat by itself, it must be frozen as it opens just above freezing.
If the freezer is above freezing hold the defrost thermostat's face onto an ice cube. It should be 0 ohms when frozen.

Also sometimes you can see that it is shot as it will be bulged out.
