The refrigerator is always running. The only way to stop it is to turn the thermostat to "off". Can the defroster be the cause of it running all the time? The compressor seems to be running all the time (or maybe just the fan). I have a spare working defrost timer which I could try. Is there a way to test the defrost timer? Any diagrams related to circuitry for this model would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Yes, there was a lot of frost behind the back panel blocking airflow from freezer to refrigerator. I melted it with a hair-dryer. There is now airflow to the refrigerator, but it doesn't feel very cold. I have to get a thermometer and see what the temperatures are. Thanks.

If there IS frost built-up in the evaporator, Turn the knob on the defrost timer clockwise until it clicks, wait 2 min, see if the defrost heater comes on, If it does, replace the timer, If it does not come on, check the heater and defrost thermostat. I will bet on the Defrost thermostat!!!:)

Food has already gone bad in the refrigerator, frost has again developed in the back of the freezer (previously defrosted with hair dryer a week ago), turning the defroster clockwise shuts the compressor for approximately 15 min and then it came back on again. It has been running continuously ever since. Refrigerator thermostat shows open on the meter when selected to off, and closed at every other temperature setting. Is that normal or should it show a different resistance when you go to a colder setting? Sorry for the delayed response.

Please go back and read My post#4. Click the timer until it CLICKS, Then DON'T touch it!!!!! Does the heater come on? If it does, REPLACE THE TIMER!!! IF NOT, Check The HEATER in the bottom of the FREEZER, and the DEFROST THERMOSTAT at the TOP of the coil in the FREEZER!!! The heater will have resistance thru it, The little round defrost thermostat should be CLOSED when its below 50 degrees.:)
