When they are that bad, the motor will pull more amperage and sometimes not start. I wondered what it would sound like without the pump and know I know.

I believe the sound is coming from the bottom. I took a look at the motor coupler and it was fine, but didn't go any deeper than that.
Before I took it apart, the machine would still go into agitate mode.
Edit: When I pulled the coupling, I noted what appeared to be a small amount of oil leaking from around the motor shaft.

Starting from the last symptom (the buzzing) it sounds like you have a bad start capacitor. Whirlpool WP8572717 Capacitor - AppliancePartsPros.com However the rattling noise during agitate mode sounds like something going bad in the motor or more likely transmission. If it is hanging up it may cause that sound in spin mode although the motor should spin just draining before spinning. Where does the rattling sound seem to come from? 1. The bottom. 2. The tub / basket area? Will the machine go into agitate mode now or does it buzz then as well?

This morning our Whirlpool washer began making a very loud rattling noise shortly before going into the spin cycle, where it simply buzzed before I shut it off. Video: https://youtu.be/xKg9qTV-KmkAny assistance in identifying the specific problem and parts would be appreciated. Thanks.
