First thing,

Your model number indicates that this is a JennAir product, not an Amana.


Secondly,

You should not be reading 100,000 ohms on the heater, more like 15 to 20 ohms,(unless your meter resistance was set incorrectly RX1 or 100 ohms setting) But, with that reading You've got an open defrost heater.

Thirdly,

If that was a reading at the defrost thermostat, that also would indicate an open thermostat, that's OK if the thermostat was at room temperature.

Were it me, I would replace both, just to be safe.
(this is sold as a single unit heater and thermostat)
