You can try replacing the bearing but given your symptoms I think it is more likely that the transmission is failing, and given the cost of a new one unfortunately you are probably better off replacing the unit.

Hopefully you can get buy with single units as these combo's are expensive.

I have a GE stack unit that began making a loud noise then the tub locked up and smoked the belt. I replaced the belt and lubricated the bearing. It seemed to work ok on light loads but locked up and burned the belt up on a full load.

What do I need to replace other than the [COLOR="DarkRed"]bearing[/COLOR]? I haven't done anything this major on a washer before. The unit has some age but seemed to work great before this happened.
