Default Washer not spinning
Model Number: LW3503W   Brand: Amana   Age: More than 10 years

Washer begins to spin, but stops only after 2 - 3 seconds. The belt is intact, but shows normal wear (some cracks etc). The tub is not out of balance. It keeps trying to start the spin cycle after a few minutes but stops. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Remove the belt and check if the motor runs without load.

I removed the belt. It definitely needs to be replaced. It is not broken, but it has multiple cracks almost all the way through. The motor seems to run just fine without the belt on it. Does this mean that if the belt is replaced the washer should spin again. If not, what are the next steps.
Thank you for your help.

There is a good chance the new belt will solve the problem.

- The part number for the belt is AP74961

Here are the break down diagram for the Amana washer Model LW3503W

Good luck.

I replaced the belt. Initially, the machine kept stalling. It took 4 or 5 tries before it kept spinning. We've washed some loads. It works OK but the motor seems to run hot. I've never actually witnessed the motor when it runs so I don't know how hot is should get. Please advise and thanks for help.

Hot motor means: it was overloaded or the motor itself is bad.

In your case most likely the problem caused by the motor itself and it has to be replaced.

- The part number for the motor is AP3873831
