when washer gets to spin cycle it completely stops, all else works (except cold water, which is a separate issue...inlet valve?) any ideas?

Most likely the problem is a bad lid switch. Regarding the cold water issue check if there is 120 VAC to the cold water solenoid while the control calls for cold water. - The lid switch Part number: AP4008752
