This is 2 years old and everything else seems to work just fine, it just doesn't cook. Any ideas as to which part needs to be replaced? :(

Does it make any unusual noise when it runs?

Do the turntable and the light inside work?

Gene.

Check if the microwave will heat on lower power level (User guide, page 11). Put a cup of water, set the power level 2 or 3 and cooking time 2 minutes. Post the result.

SOrry, didn't see that you responded... I did what you suggested and the water was still ice cold.

I have a Maytag UMC5200AAS and after the microwave was has been used and we try to use again immediately it will not heat; just lights up, but will work several hours later. What do you think it is?[/font]

Sorry for the delay.

Unplug the microwave and get access to the high voltage transformer as described in the Service manual (page 35) but do not remove it. Discharge the high voltage capacitor, remove the wires from the high voltage transformer primary windings, plug the microwave and check for 120 VAC between these wires while the control calls for heat. Be careful not to electrocute yourself.

If there is no proper voltage, replace the control board.

If there is proper voltage, check the high voltage transformer, the high voltage capacitor and diode as described in the Tech sheet.

If there is nothing wrong, then the magnetron is the culprit.

Open the control panel, discharge the high voltage capacitor and check the cooling fan (#16 on the diagram). Post the results.

It's weird; after trying to figure it out; I kept clearing the time and re-tried it again and I was getting ready to push the button to open the door and the microwave started again and that's seems to be the problem; it's some kind of short in the button to open the door?????
