The washer takes a very long time on the normal setting, reverses direction very slowly or takes a long time to reverse. Heavy and light settings seem normal. Is the motor control board going bad?
Thanks

Possible, but it may also be your main control board. Here is a Maytag tech bulletin on the new motor/motor control assembly. If you contact Maytag they made send you a unit free of charge.

The washer is about 10 years old and has been updated and rebuilt once about 5 years ago under a warrenty(same problem). My understanding is that Maytag is no longer in business.

Maytag is owned and operated by Whirlpool. They did such a disasterous job with the Neptunes that they only way they could survive was to sell to Whirlpool, and they did and are still running.

See if you can remember or find documentation on what they did before, and then replicate the work.

They replaced everything. motor, motor control, circuit boards, wax door latch, door seal so I am not sure what the item was that made it work.
I have not had a warrenty on it since then. 5 years ago
Do you think Whirlpool will today fix it for free on a recall of sorts?

Thanks

No, Maytag/Whirlpool will not fix this machine free, and given they have changed it out once I doubt if they will even supply parts.

If you have gotten 10 years out of this model you are way ahead of the game. I suggest that rather than sinking more time or money into it you replace it with a good, no frills top loading machine. Make sure it does not have microprocessor controls, for reasons you have already experienced.

Thanks for all your help.

I will be looking for a cheap top loader, Kenmore,Whirlpool or Roper.

Have a great day

You are welcome, good luck and I am sure you will get a very good machine. Retailers seem a little desperate right now.
