My Samsung fridge (RF28HDEDBSR/AA) freezes up every couple of weeks and I need to take it apart and defrost it manually. The temp sensor reads approx 4.5k ohms and the heater element reads 140ohm. The thermostat is inline with the heater so, based on my readings, it would be closed. I did not try cooling the thermostat while I had it out to see if it opened.

Terry, the refrigerator defrost sensor would need to be tested for resistance at the time of failure. This can be done using the sky blue wire at pin 8 of connection CN30 and the gray wire at pin 1 of connection CN76. This would be done while a thermometer is next to the defrost sensor. 4.5K Ohms would be about 28°F, 5.2K ohms at 24°F, 7.3K Ohms at 15°F, 8.8K Ohms at 10°F, 10.8K Ohms at 5°F, 13.2K Ohms at 0°F. If the resistance is not close to what it should be when compared to the temperature, the defrost sensor will need to be replaced.
