I have a KitchenAid Gas Oven - Model #KSGG700ESS0 that is having intermittent failures when lighting the oven burner.

  • The broiler element does not experience this issue
  • I have replaced the ignitor module with no improvement (the failures are about as often as before)
  • I have cleaned out the oven burner tube
  • I have cleaned out the threaded orifice on the end of the gas line just before the burner tube
  • With the oven bottom (that covers the burner tube) removed it seems to never fail
  • The lighting success seems to be higher when the oven is cold
  • The lighting failures seem to be higher when the oven is hot
  • We can hear the ignitor clicking (and when we have the cover removed, see it)
  • We can hear the gas valve open
  • If we light the gas burner with a grill lighter, while it is attempting to light, the element will still cut off due to the safety features (despite the fact the gas is lit from our lighter)
  • When lit, the flame is light blue (little to no orange)

Questions/Thoughts:

1. Could the reflector shroud that covers the burner be causing the issue?
2. Could it be an intermittent air/gas mixture issue? We have not modified this.
3. What component determines successful lighting?

This was an expensive oven. I'd hate to throw it on the curb...SUPER frustrated.

This has been going on since 11/2023

JDinKTX, if the spark igniter is properly aligned to the burner head and nothing is blocking any vent holes, it would be likely that the gas valve solenoid is not opening properly and this is affecting the ignition.

OK - I had already orders a replacement spark ignition module (computer board on the back side of the oven).

If that doesn't resolve it I guess I can try the solenoid valve

WilliamM - my iginition module board arrived and I installed it. It did not resolve the problem. The oven consistently lights from cold but does not "re-light" to maintain heating.

I read somewhere else that this could also be due to the air/gas mixture. Does that make sense to you? If so, would it need more or less air.

For what it is worth - none of these possible fixes make sense given that it ONLY fails when the oven is hot.
