I've managed to keep my Maytag Gas Dryer running for 25 years, model LDG9801AAW.

Today, the dryer stoped getting hot. The igniter heats up, a flame starts but goes out after 20-30 seconds. I have tested all of the normal components for continuity, plus the high temp sensor for operation up to 220F. I suspect that the high temp sensor is responsible for shutting down the flame...but justifiably. The flame is being applied directly to the area where the sensor is mounted. That's GOT to me hotter than 220F. For a test, I shorted out the leads from the sensor and it did run longer than 30 seconds, but I could smell things heating up and I stopped the test.

I'm thinking maybe my flame pattern is wrong and the high temp sensor is doing the correct thing.

Image attached.

One caveat: I'm running the test with the front panel and dryer door OFF, for ease of access. If this could change the flame pattern, that's my bad.

Hello jbschwartz and thank you for your question.
During the flame test the door and the front panel should be in place to provide proper air flow.
How the dryer vent goes and where is the vent outlet?
The first thing you may want to check after reassembling the dryer is the air flow through the vent.
Post the results and we will go further.
Gene.
