I have a GE TFX27F fridge (model # TFXC27FLL) that has worked well for 30 years. But
that ended several days ago when I woke up to a warm fridge. Refrigeration works well
while the compressor is running. It brings freezer temp down to the desired 0 F but
then, at some point, the compressor stops and the fridge slowly warms. The compressor
might startup again several hours later, but usually it doesn't startup at all. At all
times when the compressor is stopped, I can simply turn the thermostat (fresh food control) off then on again and the compressor immediately starts and cooling resumes. It runs for awhile then stops again several hours later.

I'd like to be able to get some more time out of this fridge if possible. Based on the described behaviour, what are the most likely problems and resolutions? I'm guessing something with the defrost system or cold temp thermostat, but that's just a guess. If a component replacement is required, I hope that component can still be sourced. Appreciate all suggestions.

Regards,

Gary

No need for anyone to comment now. I got very good advice on www.applianceblog.com. It's the cold control thermostat - OEM part # WR9X442, which has been discontinued. Fortunately, I found a seller on eBay, so one is enroute to me now. Thanks anyways.
