Hi, This is a 20 year old Kenmore washer with a dual agitator that has stopped working. Everything else works fine. It goes through the whole wash, but just doesn't agitate. I really don't want to have to replace it. The agitator spins freely at all times.

Can someone walk me through the steps of troubleshooting, please? (find and check "dogs," spline, etc). Thank you so much. -Lally

Does the bottom portion of the agitator work at all and not the top section?
Check it out by opening the lid during agitation and use a screwdriver to trip the lid switch to watch if necessary.
Let us know if only the top part of the agitator isn't working but the bottom section is. If that is true then you need a new agitator repair kit.
Watch Mat in this video from APP.

If neither work during agitation then you may need another part. Perhaps you can shot a video and post to youtube, give us a link so we can see for ourselves.
