We have an old washing machine that belonged to my wife's grandma. It's worked really well until a couple days ago when it stopped spinning and wouldn't drain. When turned on it would just make a humming sound, then be quiet, hum and then be quiet again. Someone told me it could be a bad water pump. So I'm trying to get the pump out (photo attached), but can't seem to remove it. I've removed the clamps and hoses and the spring clamps that hold the pump in place. I don't see any bolts or screws or anything else I can do to detach it. I tried forcing it and even tried plying it with a hammer, but am worried about breaking something. I'm not an expert at this stuff by any means. If anyone has some advice (including call a professional or get a new washer) I'd really appreciate. Thanks! danm12345 attached the following image(s):

Those pumps just slide onto the top of the motor's shaft. The problem is they get rusted on tight.
I've had to cut them apart in order to remove them. You might try a little oil on the shaft and let it set overnight. Then try tapping it with a hammer.

Thanks! I found this replacement part (pictured). It looks like just that top part of the white plastic piece is the actual pump I should be trying to remove. That may have been part of my problem too. So do you think it's safe to do whatever I've got to do to get that pump out and shouldn't worry about breaking anything? danm12345 attached the following image(s):

Just remember that if you beat it too hard you could ruin the motor's bearings and there is a very breakable motor start switch under that water shield.
