Timer not working and hot heating

My dryer stopped heating in the middle of a cycle last night. I noticed this morning that the timer is not working/moving and just stays on 30 minutes. I would like to try and repair the dryer on my own. I have replaced heating elements on other dryers I have owned.

My question is, if the timer is out, will this keep the dryer from heating up? Or could I have more than one issue with the dryer? If there are multiple problems, I may as well just get a new dryer.

Does the timer not advance in bout timed dry and auto modes?

If it does advance in timed dry then it is probably not the timer but most likely a grounded element.

Yes...The timer does not advance, and the dryer is not getting hot....thank you for any help you have....

Check the power to the unit.

You may have lost L2

Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker.
Check the voltage at the plug
L1 to L2 should be 240 volts
L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts.
If OK
Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out
If OK
Check the power at the terminal strip.
Do this with the heater off and on.
[COLOR="Red"]Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!![/COLOR]
