My dryer will not shut off in the automatic mode. It does, however, still get hot. The timed dry seems to be working correctly. Ideas of what the issue may be ??

Does the timer advance at all during the auto dry cycle? Is it advancing normally til it gets near the end and then stops advancing? If that is the case, then it's most likely a faulty timer. If it doesn't advance at all in auto dry, then it could be that either the operating thermostat is not cycling or the power resistor is faulty.

The timer did not make any movement during the auto dry cycle. Would the operating thermostat you're referring to be the "high limit thermostat" or the "cycling thermostat"?

Set timer to auto dry cycle and set temp switch to fluff. Start dryer. If timer does not advance, then check the power resistor. This is an odd looking black device with two terminals located in the control panel. One wire connects to the timer T terminal. Resistance across the two terminals should be around 4000 to 5000 ohms.
