Is it possible that the coating of the inner tub can wear away? My wife noted at the bottom area along the sides, it appears coating is worn away. Worried that if this is so, coating particles could infiltrate clothes and or mechansm. Is this a real probability?

That stuff is baked on pretty strong, can't say I have every seen it wear away so I don't know what the ramifications are. I don't think it should be a problem but cannot say for sure.
