on ours the freezer light switch also controls the front dispensor so we have to keep a piece of tape over switch , my question is what part should be hitting the freezer switch to make it turn off?

I cannot say.
A model number may help.
You can look up the part breakdowns and that may show you.

To see a paarts breakdown you will have to go to the Sears Parts site.
They do not share their breakdowns with other vendors.

Below is the part/switch.
It looks like the side of the door shelf should close the switch.

It might still be the switch.
Perhaps the switch is only actuating when it's actuator is pushed all the way down but should be activated when the plunger is lets say pushed 75% of the way down.
This is just a guess.

You could add a peel and stick foot (small rubber type) or one of those cabinet door silencing pads to the side of the door insert to push the switch further closed when the door is closed.
Or just replace the switch to see if that does the trick.
