My Whirlpool front load washer got clothes caught between the bellows and the tub. I untwisted the clothes and reconnected the bellow. Now there is a large gap between the tub and the bellow and the tub rocks back and forth a couple of inches. Is this normal or will clothes continue to get caught in the gap?

Assuming you did not damage the bellows in removing the clothing the problem may be in the support system.

Take off the back and top and inspect the shocks and other support structures and see if there is a problem. The drum should be stable. Hopefully all it is is the shock and you can replace them and be done.
