The ram just got stuck in the down position today. I've pulled the unit out and took the top plate off but i can't see if anything stuck. When its turned on it humm's but the ram will not come up. Please respond.
Thanks, POP JOHNNY:confused:

wow i came here to post this exact same problem. I have the black version - gx900qppb2. The ram doesn't move, motor whirs/hums until i push the off button. Turning it back on and off doesn't cause the ram to reverse. This unit is very difficult to take apart to see if anything is stuck because all the screws are behind the door that won't open because the ram is down.

figured mine out, yours may be the same so i'm posting. I turned the unit on it's side, unscrewed the bottom plate to have a look. The large white gear was broken in two, so I ordered a new gear drive kit from an online store. Hopefully it works out. good luck

I have the same problem with Whirlpool Compactor model gx900qppb2.

Replaced the broken gear in the bottom of unit.

Cranked the ram to top position by turning gears in lower unit, which tells me power nuts are still good.

Now, when I press start, it hums for a second then I hear something like a breaker tripping. It resets itself after some time, but when I press start, I get the same result.

Any suggestions?
