I have an old Hotpoint rc14 40" oven and need to fix the spring coil broiler. It was working fine until a pan hit the element and it sparked and melted a section. I guess you remove the frame and rethread the spring coil? I am having problems removing the element frame. I removed one flat head screw in the middle of the ceramic base but I can't seem to get it free. Is there a trick to this or just use more muscle?

Hopefully you already discovered this since I'm replying to a year-old post. But for anyone interested:

The ceramic piece that is up against the back of the oven needs to stay screwed in, and it is essentially an electrical outlet receptacle. The broiler unit has 3 metal prongs which plug into the outlet. Give the broiler unit a good yank and it should disengage from the outlet and slide out.
