I noticed the dryer has been making a high-pitched squeaking noise over the past year or so, it stopped once the dryer started going for a few minutes. Last week, the dryer stopped working altogether. Any ideas why?

The two problems are probably not connected.

First check to see that you have current to the machine. Then disconnect it, take off the back and check continuity in the thermostats/thermal fuse.

To fix the squeal, take out the two screws under the lint filter cover. You can then pry up the top and flip it back. You can now take off the front, release the belt and take out the drum. (you can also check the door switch while you are doing this). Replace the rear rolller, idler and belt and that should solve your squeal problem.

Good luck.
