Hi,

I have a Whirlpool WTW5590SQ0 washer, and I just started having some issues with it. Specifically, it appears that it will not fill cold water any more. So, if I set the water temp to Warm or Hot the washer will start and fill with water...however, if it is set to Cool or Cold there is no water fill at all- in fact, the washer will not even attempt to turn on. As soon as you turn the temperature knob to Warm or Hot it starts immediately. There are no other 'water' issues in the house, and there's no pooling water.

From my limited 'googling' it appears this might be related to the Water Inlet Valve and the associated solenoids. Does that sound right to the experts here?

I found the schematic for my washer (http://www.appliancepartspros.c...=5137416&NewWindow=1) (part 18) It appears this could be a lot to take apart to get to this piece- is that correct?

Also, if I replace the Inlet Valve, are there any other pieces/parts I should get at the same time to replace? Washers, hoses, etc.

Thanks!

Hi.

Check the water flow through the fill hose.

With the selector switch set to cold check if there is 120VAC at the cold

water solenoid. If the voltage is OK - replace the

water valve Part number: 8578343
Part number: 8578343

If no voltage - replace the temperature switch

Part number: 8578338
Part number: 8578338

Thank you. Post the results.

Simon.

Thank you Simon, I validated voltage going to the plugs attached to the water inlet valve. Everything seemed ok, but I was just curious to validate expectations:

Cold: voltage to cold plug no hot
Cool: voltage to cold plug no hot
Warm: Voltage to both plugs
Hot: voltage to hot plug

Based on seeing voltage to both at one point or another I ordered a new inlet valve. Thanks!
