Right before Thanksgiving, fridge was too warm but freezer was going crazy cold, so GE service replaced damper. Right before leaving for the holidays, started to do the same thing, but after staying closed while we were gone it reset. Yesterday it started going crazy again. Last night freezer was -5 and fridge was 33. This am though freezer was 2 and fridge was 41. Now the freezer is back to -5 but the fridge is up to 45 and the fridge is running all the time.

Is this fridge about to die? It's only 7 yrs old and a GEprofile. When should I consider getting a new fridge

What is the complete model number of the refrigerator?

Did you measure the temperatures?

It would not hurt to clean the condenser coils on the back of the fridge.

Model No. PDS20SCPARSS
SErial # VF041158

How do I measure the temperature? My unit has digital ones.

What's the best way to clean the condenser coils? Can I keep the unit plugged in when I do it?

The best way to measure the temperature is to use a mercury refrigerator thermometer. You can buy it at any hardware store.

You can clean the condenser using a vacuum cleaner and a special condenser cleaning brush. You can keep the unit plugged in.

We have the ge profile artica and are experiencing the same thing! 3 years ago, i had the mother board replaced. the frig was only 4 years old at that point. a few months ago, the water line to the water inside the frig broke. this meant no water and we started making our own ice cubes. i didn't want to put any more $ into the frig. BUT, now we are having the temp control issue. can't get the frig bel02 45 degrees and the freezer can be -4!

i have measured the temps and the digital read is correct.

I will try cleaning the coils. is there Freon(sp) in these refrigerators?

Any other suggestions besides scrapping the piece of junk:mad:

Can you describe more detailed on "...the water line to the water inside the fridge broke..."?

it is the line that runs in for the water and ice. this hasn't been working for a while now. the water flow wouldn't stop so my husband cut off the water supply to the frig.
we moved all the food into a spare frig and have been able to keep the door closed for long periods of time. the temp is down to 40 degrees from a high of 47 and the freezer back to -4 from a high of 9.

should we be able to hear a fan running to tell if it is compressor issues?

thanks so much.

You did not provide the model number of the fridge yet.

Unplug the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Plug it back and check if the fan inside the freezer is working at normal speed. The compressor should be on at this time too.

Post the results.
