My dishes are coming out dirtier than when they went in. I can run them through 3 times and they dont get clean. A sandy deposit is left on the dishes, especially the top rack. They have to soak in hot soapy water and scrubbed clean. We've resorted to doing them by hand now. This isnt the etched, cloudy, white from hard water. It's actual sand/grit.

Your dishwasher probably needs a good cleaning.
How is the drain line connected to the garbage disposer?
What is the complete model number of the dishwasher?
