we bought a new pressure control switch and installed and still have the problem that the washer will not stop filling up with water.
any suggestions or another idea what it could be

The tube that runs from the pressure switch to the tub may be clogged up. Take the front off and look at the bottom left of the tub. You should see the tube attached to the tub remove it and check for clogs. A lot of times it will clog up right where it connects to the tub. If the tube is not clogged and you already changed the pressure switch the water valve is bad. Washer Repair Guide

I had this problem at a rental of mine, and the tenants of mine had just placed the hose in the drain basin on the floor (really old house). Per the GE site, the drain hose has to be at least 30" off of the floor.
