I just put a rebuilt motor in my Kenmore dryer. It worked fine for a few weeks, but started making a buzzing noise when trying to turn it on. Also, the fan blower (plastic thing on back of motor) was unthreaded. When I tested it, it seems to be running backward. There is also a burning smell.

Any ideas?

You may have installed the wrong motor.
It should only be able to run in one direction as that is part of the motor's design.
The unscrewed blower wheel is a good indicator that it was running in reverse as the wheel should tighten itself if the motor runs in the correct direction.

Problem is I would have thought that the idler wheel would have jammed up if the unit ran in the wrong direction.

In any case you need a new motor.

It seemed to be running properly at 1st, so I don't know how it could have got reversed. The motor still runs, but it seems that most of the threads always say you need a new motor. I'll see if I can return the one I got. This is the 2nd motor I've replaced. The 1st was a cheap one made in China, this one was supposedly a original rebuilt motor.

Thanks for your reply.

I would check that the drum rotates fairly easily perhaps it is putting too much load on the motor and causing them to burn out.
