Undercounter ice maker isn't cooling. Relay clicks, compressor hums, overload clicks. Does this every 60 seconds or so, with overload clicking 3-5 seconds in.

Have tested all compressor terminals - no short to ground and resistances all add up (3, 9, and 12, roughly).

Relay also checks out with continuity tests. Also dismantled relay and seems fine, although contact points were a little fried (cleaned those up with a file and didn't change the problem).

Ice maker is about 6 years old. Best guess now is that compressor is stuck mechanically. Is there anything I've missed? Hoping something will turn up before I drop $600 on a new compressor (local shop quote for that work).

Also, what causes compressors to fail?

If you have a wire type relay, they rarely fail. I suspect a bad compressor. To verify, use an amprobe on the start and common terminals, high current on either verifies a bad compressor.
