It sounds like your motor is overheating.
What ia happening is the motor gets hot and trips it's internal thermal protect. You then have to wait for the motor to cool down and the thermal protect to reset before you can start it again.

Try turning the drum by hand. It should turn fairly easily. You may want to try this on a couple other units to get a feel for it. Could be you have a mechanical problem and there is too much drag on the unit.

Check/clean the motor, the blower wheel and your vent system.
Also check that the seal between the motor and the blower is OK. Could be it is blowing hot air back onto the motor.

On the motor is a centrifugal switch if that switch does not activate them start winding is left in circuit and that can cause the motor to overheat.

Set the unit to an air only cycle and see if it now runs OK.
If yes then lint build up or a bad seal is probably the cause.

If it still shuts off then it could be drum drag, the centrifugal switch or it's mechanism or that the motor is on it's last legs,
