1997 Kenmore Super Capacity Plus Automatic Washer 110269026902: This machine repeatedly clicks and puts a load on the electric circuit that dims the house
lights after a while it will either start going into the spin cycle or trip the house breaker. Any ideas about what is causing this? This happens just before it goes into the spin cycle. The machine works fine up until then. The breaker does trip eventually or the machine goes into the spin. I have made sure that the electrical connections to the motor are tight and this seemed to solve the problem. But the same thing happened again after a few uses. I checked the connections again and they were fine. Could the problem be the capacitor?

I don't think it is the capacitor, because they rarely fail and your problem is only in the spin function.
Most likely is that the brakes are hanging up or a transmission problem. Check out the brakes first, that is the most likely source of the problem. If the brakes do not release the motor goes into overload and causes your electrical problem.
