When the lid is lifted it no longer stops before hitting aginst the control panel.
I suspect the torsion rod but I cannot see where it is broken.
Is there suposed to be a stop that keeps the lid from going all the way back?

It sounds like the lid switch is the problem. It will eventually break and the product will not spin. Tom

I guess I did not explain the problem quite clearly.
The tub stops spinning fine. I am talking about the lid actually hitting aginst the control panel when it is opeaned.

Here is a service manual

Sounds like something has broken in the lid hinge or torsion bar.
The manual shoul help you locate and repair it.
