I have a Maytag Ensignia, model number MAV9657EWW, and during the agitation stage it sounds incredibly loud. It is almost an excruciating sound. Is this the transmission gone bad? The spin cycle sounds normal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Insert a putty knife or screw driver in the gap between the front and top near the edges and you will release clips that hold the front panel on.

You can now run the machine with the panel off and see if you can tell where the noise is coming from. It is very difficult for us to make a remote diagnosis on a noise because we have to be there to hear it and listen for its source area, but the transmission does sound like the probably problem.
