Broiler and oven have weak spark - then none when trying to lite. Top of stove is working fine all burners. All have electronic ignition. Is it the electrode or something else and if so how do you replace it?

Joe,

There are several parts involved with the oven ignition system,

Igniters, DSI spark module, and the burner(s),

First, unplug the power cord, or turn off the power.

(It's easier if you remove the oven door)

Remove the spark ignition assembly from the burner assembly(two screws on each mounting plate, they are usually heat stressed, and difficult to remove).

Check and clean the burner tube, especially in the igniter area, Check the metal tip of the igniter for debris, melt down, "mushrooming"
Be CAREFUL, don't break the porcelain casing or tip.

Once you've done that check, if all's OK, you're going to need to replace the DSI spark module.

to access the DSI module,

Electrical Shock Hazard
Disconnect power before servicing.
Replace all parts and panels before
operating.
Failure to do so can result in death or

electrical shock.

*** You'll need to slide the range out 4 to 6 inches

1. Unplug range or disconnect power.
2. Turn off gas supply to range.
3. Remove the grates from the top of the

range.
4. To remove the control panel:

a) Pull the knobs off the gas valves.
b) Remove the two screws from the sides

of the end caps.
c) Open the oven door and remove the six
screws from the bottom of the control
panel (two end cap screws and four

control panel screws).
d) Close the oven door.
e) Pull the control panel forward and remove
the two end caps.
f) Disconnect the wire connectors from
the electronic oven control board at P2,

P3, and P4.
* you don't really need to remove the wires from the control board or remove the control panel, you can usually flip it up/over and lay it on the cooktop *

6. To remove the spark module (DSI):

a) Remove the bracket mounting screw.
b) Pull the spark module forward as far as
it will go and disconnect the wires from
the terminals, then remove the spark
module from the unit.
c) Remove the spark module mounting
screw from the bracket and remove the

module from the bracket.

This ought to get you through the repairs.

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

Just to add my 2 cents...

Joe,

You may want to start the troubleshooting by testing the gas valve regulator (#13 on the diagram). This is very common problem with Direct Spark Ignition ovens. You can find the instructions in one of our previous threads: http://forum.appliancepartspros...l-oven-wont-heat-up.html
