Twice in the past year the Top mounted freezer on my Whirlpool would drain water to the bottom of the refrigerator. I cleaned the freezer and made sure the drain hose was clear.
- Now the freezer looks as though there was a snow storm in it. Everything is frosty! Yes, there's water draining into the bottom of the refrigerator again.

I'm not a refrigeration technician though I'd like to fix this myself. Any ideas on what I can do, or shall I call a repair-person and bite the bullet?
Thanks in advance for any help

Dear Tigerpaw.

It will help a lot if you'll post the model number of the fridge.

Simon.

Hello:
My refrigerator is a Whirlpool model: ET1CHNXKQ00 or it is model: ETICHMXKQOO.

The difference in model number may be the second figure either a 1 or the letter i.

Hi.

Regarding the frost in the freezer.

Check the freezer temperature it shouldn't be much below 0 F*.Adjust if needed. Make sure the door gasket is intact, the frequent opening of the door may cause the frosting. Some produce left in the freezer for long time will frost up eventually.

Regarding the drain.

Defrost and clean the drain, pour hot water in it to make sure it's open, then install the drain heater kit Part number: 819043
Part number: 819043

That should help.

Simon.

Could also be large temperature swings in the freezer.

Put a bowl of ice cubes in the freezer.
Leave it for a day or so.
If they end up all frozen solid together then the freezer is getting too warm.
Stuff is melting creating water vapor which then condenses on the freezer walls when it re-freezes.

Can be caused by a bad main control thermostat.
Or by the defrost thermostat not shutting off the defrost heater when all the frost has been removed from the evaporator coils.
