My bottom freezer is frost free model about 10 1/2 yrs old. Refrigerator is constantly running, except once in am and once at night it stops. Noticed ice cream getting soft. temperature in empty fridge was 28 degrees and empty freezer was 20 degrees 24 hrs after restarting. Where should troubleshooting begin?

Check if there is frost on the back panel in the freezer.

Post your findings.

Frank,

Looks like the sealed system is low on Freon. In such situation all diagnosis should be done by a certified tech and it could be very costly.

Thanks Gene.

Is there a freezer setting or possibly turning the freezer to "OFF" that will support using the refrigerator until the freon is checked? Frank

Frank,

There is only one cooling system for both parts and you can not turn off just one of them.

Gene,

I understand why low freon will cause the freezer to run constantly and not reach the correct temperature, do you know why the system would stop twice a day: once in morning @10AM and again in the evening?

Frank,

It stops due to automated defrost, operated by the defrost timer.
