The last month I used my electric dryer it made a squealing sound when I turned it on. Now it is not heating at all but the drum still turns. Could the two problems related?

I do not have any electronic tools. How do I fix this? What tools do I need to get? Do you think it is worth fixing?

These laundry appliances sit in my garage. If I have to replace them, will the new washers and dryers tolerate being in a garage?
