the washer washes just fine but when it starts to spin it just screeches and won't spin is it worth getting fixed

Sounds like something is caught, or that your brakes are not releasing.
Take a look at the Sticky at the top of the Washer Forum by Richappy. It will tell you how to check them out. In doing so you will have the opportunity to see if something is caught in the inner/outer tub and to inspect the drive block and clutch.
