You can put the belt back on by simply leaning the machine back. You'll see the pulley's underneath the belt goes around. Make sure you hand turn all the pulley's to make sure they all turn freely. The motor should be on a slide tensioning device which keeps proper tension on the belt. The front comes off if you do decide to have a peek at the working components. Could be you just need a new belt. Below are pictures of the motor tensioner spring and and belt.
