Since the only way to shut the heater off is manually by removing power from it (opening the door). It sounds like the control board is toast. If the board uses a relay to control the heater, it's contacts may be welded together.

Could try the diagnostics to see if it will shut off electronically.

Hi, my dishwasher completes its cycle and all indicators on display panel turn off but the heating element stays on. Once the door is opened the element will turn off. Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.
