You'll need a multimeter,

So you can test circuits, switches and voltages.

If you can access a meter or purchase one, it'll save you a lot more than the initial cost.

But, you're on the right track, check to make sure you have voltage to the dishwasher(behind the kickplate and lower access panel,in the junction box, then the door switches for power and a circuit.Then the control panel/key pad assembly, and control board.
