When turned on the oven does not light regularly. Sometimes there will be a big poof and the smell of gas. At times that will occur throughout the baking cycle. Baking results are not consistent.

Which oven (upper or lower) gives you problems?

Check the Bake burner for a burned through holes. If it's fine, replace the Bake igniter.

Gene,

Will changing the ignitor solve the problem with the intermittent (but not frequent) explosions during baking? What causes this to happen?

It can be because of a bad burner or a bad igniter. That's why you have to check the burner first.

for some reason i have problem with the lower igniter
is not lighting anymore,, hmmm,any ideas what to start changing first?
