Model Number: LDG8704AAE Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years
My gas dryer stopped heating. The exhause vent is clear and everything is moving ok, but not heat. After about 2 weeks with no heat, on one run, I heard the gas ignite and it ran for one load. However, since then nothing. No warmth at all.
I've heard it could be either the ignitor or the thermostat. How do I tell which, or perhaps it's something else. The dryer is 16 yrs old. If someone thinks they know what the problem is, I'd like to know how hard it is to reach the part. The schematics, or exploded diagrams are great, but don't show you how to open the dryer up in the proper sequence. Thanks. Ads By Google Related Models |

Hi.
Unplug the unit. Remove two screws at the bottom of the front panel. Pull the panel towards you and lift it of the top clips. Leave it connected at the side. Using the multimeter check continuity of the hi - limit thermostat, cycling thermostat, ignitor, flame sensor (remove one wire off when testing). You should read less then 1 Ohm (except the ignitor). Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for Maytag LDG8704AAE DRYER- GAS | AppliancePartsPros.com Thank you. Post the results. Simon.

Hello,
Per Simon no the APP team, I used the multimeter to check continuity of the hi - limit thermostat, ignitor, flame sensor. I didn't check the cycling thermostat because I couldn't find it in the exploded diagram so I don't think I have one. Any way, of the hi - limit thermostat, ignitor, flame sensor, it was the ignitor that seemed to have the 'open circuit' so that's the part I ordered and installed... but still no heat. I first tried the dryer 'all put together'. When it still had no heat I took the front off and watched. After the dryer has been on for a few seconds, the ignitor glows bright for a few seconds and then turns off. It does this everytime I start the dryer but the gas never seems to flow and no heat. Please advise as to my next step. Thanks. Read more: Gas Dryer runs but has no heat http://forum.appliancepartspros.com |
