My roper electric dryer will not start when you push the start button. When the door is closed I have no power to the start button. If i open the door one wire of the two on the start button gets power. but with the door open i lose power to my cycle/timer switch. Why do i not have power to the start button when door is closed? Please help.

A Model Number might help others help you.

Your power to the start button issue depends on how you are measuring it.

For instance if you are measuring across the switch's contacts.
When open you will see a voltage.
When close there is no voltage as the contacts in the switch are a dead short.
This is normal.

Have lots of ideas but finding the right one is the trick. That is why a Model Number comes in handy. Then with a little luck can find a wiring diagram.
Also you did not say how (where are your meter leads) when checking for power.

1. Door Switch
2. Start switch
3. Timer contacts
4. Motor
5 Thermal fuse
6 Half the line missing
Not necessarilly in the above order

I have the meter leads on the black wire at the start Switch. The door switch is working i assume because it shuts the timer off when open and closed. I will get the model number shortly and post it. I will check the fuse as well

Open the door and see if the light is on. Keep the door open and close the switch. Did the light stay on/come on/go out?
